How 'bout that weather?

8/31/15  9:58  PM

I thought that I would talk about the fires in Washington state but I think I am going to talk about the weather.  I have told many many people that I am praying for rain.  I haven't stopped; even though it has rained pretty good for the last few days and rain is expected for the next ten days at least.  We can not get enough right now with the 30+ wild fires that have been taking tole on our firefighters and volunteers.  There have been many homes and properties burnt to the ground too.  The rain that we have had has not directly put the fires out but has been beneficial to the firefighters who are fighting the blaze.Article HERE

KEEP PRAYING FOR RAIN!

Along with the rain that has been coming down, there has been wind.  As you drive the streets of Tacoma, you can see branches, trees, and other debris that has been blown into the streets.  Home owners are doing their best to clean up after the storm. We came home from the homestead yesterday to a mess of our own.  Before we could get settled, John and Chris took care of the tarp that covered the chicken run.  It was in shreds.  We have another tarp to put on but until we feel that it is safe to do so we will leave it off.  Our chickens are free range chickens and are let out of the coup first thing in the morning and locked up in the evening when they go to bed. Other than that, we have not had any damage.

Boy! The Good Lord has had His hand of protection on us this week.  At the homestead we had a giant tree, about 3-4 feet across, snap about 10 feet up from the ground.  The crack that it made sounded like an explosion.  I happened to be outside cooking breakfast over a propane grill because the power was already out from the wind.  I quickly peeked around the corner and saw the tree going down.  It was almost in slow motion.  I ran inside to tell Chris and John about it falling and they darted out and were still able to see it in motion.  The wind was still kicking and we all went inside until it slowly subsided.

When we finally got the opportunity to assess the damage, we found that there was very little damage at all.  In his Grace, God fell that tree at an angle that did not hit any of our buildings.  It did sheer a couple of branches off of surrounding trees and took one branch of our glorious apple tree off.  Virtually, God took that tree and gently laid it down in the pasture.  In the fall, all of the branches either broke off, or snapped off when it landed.  The tree looks like it has been limbed already.  Yes, it will be a mess to clean up but it will also provide at least 2 years of firewood.

After the thrill of the morning we packed up into the truck and went fishing (why not?)  My granddaughter Kaylee was visiting this weekend and enjoyed the thrill of catching her first fish and catching 2 more, out fishing the rest of us.  So glad she did, a successful first experience may make it fun for the rest of her life.

After fishing for a while we all went for a walk out onto the dried land of the Riffe Lake.  They walked for miles while I took an easy stroll taking pictures of strange things and just taking it easy.  I returned to the truck and sat up in the bed of the truck in a lawn chair and just enjoyed the changing views of the heavens over Swofford Pond.  What a beautiful, blessed day.

Well enough for tonight. Ta ta for now, Beth  P.S. PRAY FOR RAIN
