Pattern Play

I stumbled upon a great article at Joss & Main featuring Caitlin Wilson.  Caitlin is an interior designer with beautiful flair.  Please visit Joss & Main to read the article HERE (Content deleted)

In my opinion, mixing and matching different textures, colors, dishes, fabrics, etc. to pull together one look is a tricky process.  I would say that my personal style of decor is where Victorian and Country Cottage collide.

I love to mix and match dishes to make a custom set,  The throw pillows that I selected for the homestead house not only match the color of the couch, but match our personal style too.

I was able to score 2 of them off of Ebay for a fraction of the cost that I would have paid elsewhere.  I believe together I paid less than $10.00.  The downside was that I ordered them from China and it took quite a while to get them.  They were worth the wait.  What could say more than Kittens and Birds?  We love them.

I am also a fan of book cases and china cabinets.  I think this is because, as I grew up there was a built in china hutch that I loved. Craftsman style homes frequently have matching book cases, one on each side of the fireplace.  I really want to achieve this look at the homestead.  This is what I have so far:  Warning!  Stark contrast! lol

My best friend Cami suggested that the room looks off balanced.  She suggested to move the TV where the couch is and move the couch in front of the window.  This would lend the space for the second book case.  I totally agree with her, yet there is a slight problem.  Ok, a big problem.

I put the couch on the left wall so we could gaze through our giant front window at the alder tree forest across the street.  It is one of my favorite scenes from the house.  I wouldn't trade the view for balance.  I will probably fix the balance problem with a second book case, better yet, a new set of book cases that are not as wide as this one that we inherited with the house.  What we keep on this book case is mostly media related anyhow.

Well, I certainly strayed off the subject of pattern play. lol  I will have to snap a few more pictures from inside the house for a future post, so you can see the progress.  Enough for today, ta ta for now, Beth
